Time for Yoga…

Have a hard time fitting yoga into your day?  Consider this simple thought: "Instead of finding time to practice Yoga, practice Yoga all the time." ~ Bob Weisenberg … [Read more...] about Time for Yoga…

Use LibraryThing to Virtually Organize Your Yoga Book Collection

I guess there could be worse things to be addicted to than books.  Every time I walk into a book store, the yoga section in particular tends to keep me occupied weighing the pros and cons of whether I need to buy another yoga book.  While I don't think I've ever regretted purchasing a new yoga book, over time I've recognized that there are certain books I return to over and over again such as David Swenson's Ashtanga Yoga Manual and B.K.S. Iyengar's classic  Light on Yoga.  I can find answers to … [Read more...] about Use LibraryThing to Virtually Organize Your Yoga Book Collection

Breathe in, Breathe out

Without the breath, yoga is just a lot of bending.  With the breath, yoga transforms.  Ujjayi breath provides the  mind-calming rhythmic hum that  naturally moves the body from one moment to the next.  The sound of the Ujjayi breath reminds me of ocean waves crashing onto the shore, running back out to sea, and then crashing back into the shore again, and again.  So peaceful and relaxing, yet so full of strength and power. Consider these simple  tips on correct yogic breathing from Lino Miele, … [Read more...] about Breathe in, Breathe out

Guruji’s Simple Words ~ Wake Up, Practice Yoga

I sat down tonight to read a few pages in the September Yoga Journal and came across many wonderful “reflections” paid tribute to Pattabhi Jois.  In one of the reflections, David Williams recalls the introduction and training in Ashtanga yoga he received from “Guruji,” including one of Guruji’s early visits to America  in 1975.  After two months of teaching daily Mysore-style classes, Guruji had one night before returning home, and Williams sought parting words of wisdom. I asked, “Guruji, … [Read more...] about Guruji’s Simple Words ~ Wake Up, Practice Yoga

No More Excuses!! A Home Yoga Practice for Beginners

Don't make excuses - make good.  ~Elbert Hubbard Many people talk themselves out of starting a yoga practice with a variety of excuses.  It's especially true for beginners who have never been to a class before and don't really know where to begin.  It can seem a bit intimidating at first.  I know from experience — we all have a million excuses for avoiding a healthy lifestyle.  Not enough time.  No place to work out.  Don't know the poses.  Too tired.  Out of shape.  Don't have the money for … [Read more...] about No More Excuses!! Take a Five Minute Yoga Break!

I always find it surprising how much better I feel at work if I take a few minutes every now and then to sit up, stretch my body, and take some relaxing breaths.  I found this refreshing routine at Yoga+ Joyful Living written by Greg Capitolo.  Enjoy! Extended periods of sitting seem to be an occupational hazard in today’s information age. Even if you have good posture habits and the best ergonomic chair, your body will need a break to release muscle tension, stress, and stagnation in the … [Read more...] about Take a Five Minute Yoga Break!
