Giant Rubber Duck Meditating on the Lake… Seoul, Korea The time has finally come. September marked the last month of The Alchemy of Flow and Form: Advanced Teacher Training at San Marcos School of Yoga with Gioconda Parker and Christina Sell. I learned a lot at my 300 hour teacher training: who I am as a teacher, what my authentic voice sounds like, and how to teach more effectively from that place. However, there is certainly one thing it prepared me for that I was not expecting: All Of The … [Read more...] about The Yoga of Travel

Theming your yoga class, theming your life…
Theming is an integral part of the class-planning process if you are a yoga teacher, whether it is done consciously or not. Some people prefer to prepare a short story or inspirational reading, others choose a word or anecdote to share. However, even if you’re not intentionally putting forth the effort to plan a theme for class, theming still occurs. A conversation that came up during my training a few weeks ago had to do with the topic of theming. How necessary is a theme, even? What makes a … [Read more...] about Theming your yoga class, theming your life…
What I Learned About Life from a Prenatal Yoga Book…
I completed my 200-hour teaching certification just over two years ago this past January. As in most general 200 Registered Yoga Teacher trainings, we spent a very brief section of our time learning how to teach to pregnant women. Perhaps because I am not a mother, and have never been pregnant, I didn’t retain much of the information that I learned during that module of training. So, when I was inevitably faced with pregnant mamas in my general Hatha Flow classes I was terrified, honestly. Not … [Read more...] about What I Learned About Life from a Prenatal Yoga Book…
A Yoga Hug to the Midline
I had another weekend of teacher training at the start of the new year, and on top of all of the challenging and inspiring information that I received, something from our anatomy module is what stood out to me, far and beyond the rest. It was on Saturday afternoon, toward the end of our eight-hour day, and a difficult time to sit and talk about the intricacies of the human body. However, one of the first pieces of information that my teacher, Christina Sell, shared with us stayed with me. She … [Read more...] about A Yoga Hug to the Midline
Saying “Thank You”
Happiness never decreases by being shared. Ayurveda, the sister science of Yoga, teaches that “like increases like.” This inherently applies not only to what we eat, but our actions and thoughts as well. Time has proven to me that gratitude is no different. Showing gratitude for our many blessings, no matter how big or small, only adds to our list of things to be grateful for. Here are some things I’m grateful for right now: 1. A warm home to take refuge in when the temperature (finally) … [Read more...] about Saying “Thank You”
Yoga and Transitions
I have never been good at transitions. I like to rush through Surya Namaskaras, getting hot and sweaty, without taking a moment to breathe in between. I used to cry every night before a major trip or event. I’ve been known to have a complete life meltdown conveniently placed in the midst of a (sometimes: every) seasonal change. Ayurveda, the sister science of yoga, points to transitional periods, in seasons especially, as crucial opportunities to find balance in our lives. According to Dr. … [Read more...] about Yoga and Transitions
