As most of you Kindle lovers already know, there are more and more great yoga books available in e-book format. Although I think e-books are still a bit overpriced, I love the convenience of having a small yoga library in the palm of my hand anywhere I go. I’ll be the first to admit that some yoga books work for the Kindle, and some just don’t. Yoga “confessionals” are a perfect fit for the Kindle. But what makes the Kindle (in all of its variations) way cool is that every now and then Amazon has a fire-sale on a yoga e-book for a price that you would never see for a book made from trees.
Tonight I noticed that for this weekend only, Neal Pollack’s “Stretch: The Unlikely Making of a Yoga Dude,” is available for only 99 cents! I haven’t read it yet, but at that price it’s kind of a no-brainer. Downloaded. From the product description and the reviews I’ve read around the web, it sounds like an entertaining read:
Stretch mercilessly lampoons the bizarre, omnipresent culture of yoga, but it’s also a story of profound personal transformation. Pollack started off mocking yoga. Now he’s become one of its most enthusiastic proponents.
Haven’t finished yet but I am reading Yoga Bitch. It has good reviews as well …. we’ll see what it brings.
Just devoured The Great Oom, by Robert Love. A fabulous, very American story of Pierre Bernard, the man who introduced hatha yoga to America in the early 20th century. A real character, but he was a true scholar, transmitted by a Indian teacher, of the Tantric traditions. The true, non-fiction story is almost unbelievable, yet I could hear the words of my Anusara teacher…..
Carried by a Promise – by Swami Radhananda – what can happen when you REALLY get into Yoga! And it’s available on Kindle…
Stretch was actually 99¢ for all of August, as well. I bought it and couldn’t put it down (and couldn’t stop cackling, which disturbed my partner several times in both intensity and duration ;)). Hope you enjoy it as much as I did!
‘Jivamukti Yoga’ by Sharon Gannon and David Life- I am trying to get ready for my next yoga training… asanas, asanas & more asanas it is 🙂
Great site, blog and post, problem with the kindles is lack of good photos, however for the convenience is great…
Just found your site and I love it! Thanks for sharing. I just finished Yoga and the Quest for the True Self by Stephan Cope. Really wonderful. I got it from the library and it was torture to not underline all the brilliant passages!

It’s amazing how technology is coming together with these alternative methods of healing. I just blogged about yoga and mental health today. I should suggest this to my readers. Thanks for a great blog!
That looks so easy on paper but when I tried some of those positions this ended as a real disaster.
I just started reading Rod Stryker’s new book, The Four Desires. Really interesting so far.
Awesome site. Book marked. Very informative in deed.
Thanks
